Definition of advertisement?

Is an announcement in the form of an image, audio, or video to inform the public about a product, service, event or vacancy.

Where can we find the advertisement?

TV, social media, newspaper, radio/podcast, magazine, billboard, etc.

Kinds of advertisement:

a. Product/goods (produk/barang)

- KFC, Nike. Eiger, etc

b. Service (layanan/jasa)

- Home cleaning service, AC repair service, motorcycle repair service, etc.

c. Event (acara/perayaan)

- Gebyar 35 tahun SMPN 1 Kanor, Festival Literasi Bojonegoro 2021, etc.

d. Vacancy (lowongan)

- Pertamina job vacancy, English teacher job vacancy, etc.

Social function of advertisement text:

To persuade people to purchase/buy the product, to use the service, or to join the event or vacancy it promotes

Generic structure of advertisement:

1. Title/name of product (nama produk yang diiklankan)

2. Description/content (isi dalam iklan tersebut)

3. Slogan : a short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising (frase pendek dan mencolok atau mudah diingat yang digunakan dalam periklanan).

4. Logo (logo produk) : Logos are images, texts, shapes, or a combination of the three that depict the name and purpose of a business – to put it simply (Logo adalah gambar, teks, bentuk, atau kombinasi dari ketiganya yang menggambarkan nama dan tujuan bisnis – secara sederhana)

5. Date (khusus iklan dalam bentuk event and vacancy)

6. Price (harga produk/jasa yang ditawarkan dalam iklan)

7. Image/illustration (gambar untuk menarik perhatian pembaca iklan)

8. Address/contact (alamat atau kontak yang bisa dihubungi, bisa berupa nomor telpon, email, alamat kantor, akun sosial media, dsb)

Language features:

1. Connotation (feeling in a word)

2. Compound word (kata gabungan)

3. Positive word

4. Persuasive

5. Grammatical features are sometimes ignored
